Hello all!

To recive blog amnesty, or to receive brownie points for missed scrapbooks or tardies, or just for fun, please answer both of these questions AND answer all the blogs you have missed--this includes 2 blogs for each of the last two weeks:

1.What are some (more than one) pedagogical rationales for the use of blogs in the classroom?

2. What might some problems with blogging be and how would you address those problems (solutions that would make blogging more successful for you and others)?

Next, answer all the blogs that you missed. For the previous two blogs that had the original prompt as well as an alternative, because this is amnesty, I am asking that for you to receive credit you must also answer both the original blog prompt and the alternative--as well as any previous blogs you missed. On ERES please read the second essay in the first section on Sexuality Health and Gender. Then read the last two articles in the second section on Sexuality Health and Gender.

For each, identify the writer's point of view (bias, preconceived ideas), the writer's intended audience, and the purpose.

For each comment on the organization and structure.

For each discuss whether you agree or disagree with the author and why. Give specific examples.

For an alternate blog assignment (as opposed to Rubin et al in our text) you may choose to do some reading on ERES: Gender, Sexuality and Health: The first essay in part I AND the first TWO essays in part II (they are short). Analyze the rhetorical aspects of audience, purpose, and tone. Note the different genres. Are they fact-based or opinion? Aftter analysing the pieces, write your reaction: do you agree or disagree and why?

4. Reading Prompt : Rubin et al

Who is the audience for this article? How do the language and structure reflect the audience? Also look at the organization and comment on why the sections are separated and the functions of each section.

Gloria Steinem, founder of Ms. magazine and virtually synonymous with feminism, wrote the piece you read on ERES. Comment on the piece: What was your reaction? Enlightened? Angered? Entertained? To begin, how does "No Name Woman," the fictional text by Maxine Hong Kingston that we read earlier, illustrate the concept of woman as "Other," as discussed in this section by de Beauvoir?

For our first prompt, I am asking you to comment on question 2 on page 13 of our reader: Another definition of rhetoric is "pompous or pretentious speech." Speculate on how such a definition might have come about.

Additionally, comment on Aristotle's language (Hint--think gender).
